The Full Story

Tango Oso Dance School was the brainchild of dancer David in 2021, an experienced Argentine Tango Dancer who moved to Birmingham for work. He experienced the lack of Tango in Birmingham and decided he could try to do something to increase his chances of dancing locally as well as reviving the once popular Birmingham Argentine Tango scene.

David really wanted to contribute to his local area and came across an iconic location ‘The Bear Tavern’ in a suburb of Birmingham historically popular with dance.

In 2022 Tango Oso (‘Oso’ - Spanish for Bear) was born! David taught and hosted milongas ‘social dances’ in Birmingham which became an instant hit and has encouraged others to do the same.
In 2023 David handed over the reins to Pam, one of his first students at Tango Oso and a friend; she has been inspired to continue growing the Tango scene in Birmingham bringing her own style and approach which focuses on creating an inclusive and diverse community and having fun dancing, learning and making friends with her newer passion and community.

About Me

My name is Pamela

I was born and raised in Birmingham. By day I am an experienced Real Estate Professional where I help businesses acquire, design, and build great spaces.

In my spare time I teach yoga and dance tango! I’m a curious person and always looking for new and diverse experiences which food and travel feeds. So, you’ll find me on a yoga mat, dancefloor, eating or packing a bag!

Why tango? An unexpected friendship circle during lockdown introduced me to the world of Argentine Tango, from the first dance class I was hooked having never danced before. I find the skill, sophistication and community captivating.

I’m always looking for how I can contribute further to any community I am a part of and felt there was more that could be done for the Argentine dance community in Birmingham and as a planner and doer by day the ideas started to flow.
The goal is to grow the Argentine tango scene in Birmingham.

The vision is to be a diverse and inclusive community that represents Birmingham and where dancers and teachers are inspired to come dance and enrich each other's Tango experiences.

I hope to meet you on a dancefloor soon.

Happy Dancing!

Pam
